Avebury Avenue Planning Application
There's a new planning application regarding the large site in Avebury Avenue on the corner with River Lawn Road. This was formerly the location of Puregym.
The site already has planning permission for a large residential development of 23 flats. The new plan proposes a further additional storey, as shown in the picture below (with the view from the High Street), to accommodate a total of 34 flats. Tonbridge Civic Society intends to oppose this and asks you to consider doing the same.
The extra storey will loom over the Victorian buildings in the High Street
With the addition of the extra storey, the excessive size of the building will have a harmful effect on the High Street and the conservation area. The impact of such a large building is not helped by its poor design, which includes materials that have little or no relationship with the buildings around it.
The site today, with the Puregym sign and the metal framework. Will the new building blend in or clash with the Victorian library and High Street buildings?
Further details of the plan can be found on the council’s website here, which is also where you can tell the planning authorities about your thoughts on the proposal.
