Civic Society Awards 2024

Tonbridge Civic Society has awarded Judd School’s new sixth form building its annual Design Award. In an event on Sunday, the school’s headmaster Jon Wood received the prize alongside Phil Doleman and Adrian Barsan from Ecopod Design.

The Society praised the striking and modern design of the new building. Mr Wood told Civic Society members at Sunday’s event the school had been quoted for simpler, less interesting design but it would have cost twice as much.

BJF Group also won a commendation for the new housing project in Priory Road, transforming a commercial site into 14 attractive homes.

In addition to the Design Award, the Civic Society presented Community Awards to two artistic contributions to the town. Firstly to Esther Leigh-Hollands and Graham Upton who, respectively, helped commission and paint the Barden mural in Avebury Road.

A Community Award was also given to Tonbridge School’s new sculpture at the top end of the High Street. Receiving the prize was Jack Skylark, the chainsaw artist that created the piece.
